Insulation Contractor in Nuevo, CA - Cooler Attics for Rural Homes

L&T French Valley Spray Foam Insulation insulates attics, walls and crawl spaces in Nuevo, CA. We seal the gaps first, then add spray foam or blown-in so hot rooms and drafty floors settle down.

What we find in Nuevo homes

Nuevo is a rural community east of Lake Perris and Perris, and it feels different from the tracts closer to French Valley. Lots are bigger, the roads are quieter, and a lot of houses have open ground on every side, so wind, sun and dust reach them from all directions. The San Jacinto River, usually dry, runs along the north side of the area. On breezy days, dust from open dirt ends up in attics, on top of the insulation and in every gap it can find.

The houses range from older ranch homes to newer builds, and many have a garage, a shop or a room added over the years. That mix is why I look before I quote, because an addition often has its own attic with less in it than the main house, and older attics here usually need sealing and cleanup before anything new goes in.

Insulation work we do in Nuevo

Working in Nuevo under county rules

Nuevo has no city hall because it's an unincorporated community, so building permits here come from the County of Riverside's Building and Safety office. I check what the county wants for your job before we set a start date. When a permit is part of the work, we handle it with the county, and that can add some time before we begin. The county doesn't issue business licenses. Instead, anyone doing business in its unincorporated areas, including a contractor licensed by the state, has to hold the county's Business (Stormwater) Registration certificate, so that's the paper to ask any contractor about here. We're fully licensed and insured. Satisfaction guaranteed on every job.

We're based in French Valley and do the same work in Nuevo that we do in Moreno Valley and Homeland. The price moves with the size of the attic or crawl space, how hard it is to get into, how much is already up there, whether any of it has to come out, and whether we're topping up loose fill or spraying foam. The schedule mostly turns on the permit question and on removal, since spoiled material comes out before anything new goes in. When I come out, I look the space over, explain what I found and put what I'd do in writing, so you get your own figure instead of a guess.

  • Hot, dry Santa Ana winds hit the county every year, so we seal the attic floor first, because loose fill does little against air that blows straight through it.
  • Dust from open ground settles in attics out here, so we look at what's sitting on the old insulation and seal the gaps it came through.
  • When the ductwork runs through the attic, I'll usually point you to foam on the roof deck even though it costs more. Otherwise, sealing the gaps and topping up loose fill is the better buy.
  • We keep eave vents open and carry the coverage all the way to the edges, since buried vents trap moisture and thin edges leave the ceiling warm along the walls.
  • Rooms over the garage, additions and shops often have attics of their own, so we check each one instead of assuming the main house tells the whole story.

Questions Nuevo homeowners ask us

Do I need a permit to insulate my attic in Nuevo, CA?

The county's permit list doesn't settle it for insulation on its own, so I ask before work starts instead of guessing. Riverside County requires a permit before a building is altered or repaired, and its examples include attic finishing. The permit counter at 955-1800 answers questions during regular business hours, and when a permit is part of the job, we take care of it.

How do you apply for a building permit in unincorporated Riverside County?

You, someone acting for you, or the licensed contractor you hire can apply, either in person or online through PLUS Online, and the county explains the steps on its how to apply page. Fees are due within 72 hours of the invoice or the permit is voided, and you'd have to reapply when you're ready to pay. When we handle the permit, we keep track of that so the job doesn't stall.

Do we have to leave the house during spray foam insulation?

Yes. For spray foam, you, the kids and the pets stay out while we spray and until the re-entry time, which is when the foam maker says it's safe to come back. I give you that time before we start so you can plan the day, and blown-in work in the attic usually doesn't send anyone out of the house.

Can new insulation go over the old insulation in my attic?

Usually it can, as long as the old material is dry and clean. If it was soaked by a roof leak or holds droppings, it comes out first, and if the roof is still leaking, I'll tell you to fix that before you spend anything on insulation.
